BEGANTO EDS PRESENTATION SUGGESTS NEW POSITIONING PARADIGM FOR DISTRIBUTORS AND FIELD SALES

With new information on how engineers are using the Internet to search for parts, Sunil Grover, CEO of Beganto, Inc., operators of BeON™, the Beganto Open Network, challenged an EDS seminar audience of manufacturers, distributors, reps and media executives to find new methods for tracking and managing new business opportunities.

"The component sales process begins in a project’s early design phase, when engineers go on line to find parts and request samples, mostly starting with a visit to manufacturers’ web sites. The channel’s challenge is for reps and distributors to position themselves as the FIRST place to go for samples," Grover said.

Grover’s wide-ranging presentation was based in part on research his company conducted in Spring 2005 at the Embedded Systems Conference and at IEEE Wescon. Starting with findings on how the Internet has changed engineering behaviors in the design process, he proceeded to outline the challenges for parts manufacturers as well as for their channel partners, including managing internal communications, increasing the customer mix, and capitalizing on the strategic pro-activity of distributors and field sales.

Grover’s analysis is summarized in a Seminar Brief, including his commentary on the role of major search methodologies – media-sponsored, distributor-sponsored, and generic (e.g., Google). The brief is intended to guide the preparation process throughout the supply chain for responding effectively to the way design-ins happen in the Internet Age.
